The Design
This design uses contrast rather than ornament. A light inlay runs the length of the cerused oak body, drawing the eye vertically and making the piece read taller and slimmer on the doorpost. The inlay was fitted tightly so the line stays clean and even along its full length, and the surrounding grain was filled and finished so the two tones sit flush to the touch. The result suits contemporary doorways where the surrounding trim is simple and a single well-executed detail is enough.
