The Design
The design here is intentionally restrained: a single walnut body with a carved Shin as the only detail. Without inlay or added hardware, the grain of the wood and the depth of the carving do the work. The Shin was laid out to sit centered on the face and cut to a depth that catches light without feeling heavy. The edges were softened slightly so the piece is pleasant to touch, since a mezuzah is handled every time someone passes through the doorway. Shaped in the workshop, then sanded and finished by hand.
