The Design
This piece was developed around a doorway with warm wood tones and brass hardware. Walnut was chosen so the mezuzah would read as part of the surrounding millwork rather than as an applied accessory, and the brass detail was selected to match the finish of the door hardware nearby. The proportions were kept narrow and vertical so the piece sits comfortably on the doorpost without competing with the trim. The walnut was shaped with precision, the brass carefully fitted, and the whole piece sanded and finished by hand.
